Videos for Postcards
Postcards is a collaborative concert project by the composer Minos Voutsinos and Fotis Flevotomos that explores the music of Eastern Mediterranean. The videos of this section show young performers from the Music School of Pallini recording four popular tunes: Orestes Stasimon, Ta Paidia tis Geitonias Sou, Militsa and Lianochortaroudia.
Like any other artistic activity in this part of the world so too musical practice has been influenced by the rational forms of the western tradition and the structural irrationality of the oriental spirit. The reconciliation of these two opposite forces has given rise to an extremely diverse musical production that combines the formal simplicity of the Greek ancient tunes with the quasi-improvisational oriental love songs from Minor Asia, and the polyphony of Epirus with the mysticism of Byzantine hymns. By developing a cinematographic kind of dialogue between innovative arrangements of known songs and video projections Postcards aim at revealing the diversity of this musical production focusing at the same time on its unifying melodic, rhythmic and harmonic elements.
